The 2009-2010 basketball season was the most successful in NGCA history. Both the boys and girls teams played nine games. The Mariners set many team and individual records. The girls were 7-2. They outscored their opponents 275-191 and outrebounded them 343 to 234. The boys were 2-7 but outrebounded their opponents 333 to 316 and regularly had players record a double-double (double digits in two statistical categories in a game). Both squads had individual players who scored more than 100 points this season. The Mariners strive for excellence and will always expect and achieve the highest levels of effort and performance from our athletes.
The Mariner Mission
- To help our athletes reach their potential as basketball players by teaching them the fundamentals of the game and by providing them the opportunity to showcase their abilities in a competitive environment
- To use the lessons of the game to train our athletes in sportsmanship and character development
- To build a sense of school pride and develop relationships among our athletes that they will value for a lifetime
- To glorify God and further His kingdom by emphasizing Colossians 3:23 "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men."
The Mariner Experience
Every practice and game begins with prayer. Everything we do is intended to strengthen the Christian faith of our athletes.
Mariners receive accurate statistics after each game to document their achievements. They also receive recognition if they tie or break a school record in any major statistical category. Game summaries are sent to the local newspaper for publication.
Mariners have the option of purchasing video copies of each game so they can review the team's performance.
Mariners have access to the team blog with archives of game photos, videos, game and season stats, school records, and sports articles intended to build their Christian faith.
Mariners are invited to attend the year-end awards banquet.
Mariners have opportunities to attend outings to local high school and college basketball games with teammates.

Robotics 2009 - 2010
NGCA is proud to have our own Robotics Team this year! The addition of robotics to our school allows students to view the world of engineering up close and personal. Our team, #710, competes in an organization called FIRST which stands for "For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology".
The challenge issued by FIRST this year is called "Hot Shot" and involves an engineering problem in which the students design, build, and program a robot which will complete the challenge assigned. Once the robot is ready, there are many competitions available. Each competition builds upon the next with the first level being a qualifying tournament. Upon winning a qualifying tournament, the team is allowed to participate in the Georgia state tournament held at Southern Polytechnic University. If our team were to be so lucky as to win at Southern Poly, they are qualified to participate at the World Championships held each year at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta! Members of this team have been to the Georgia Dome the past two years in a row! This year's competition season is upon us and hopefully we will compete in two qualifying tournaments in January and February.
Once the high school robotics team is firmly in place, students in younger grades will be allowed to participate in an NGCA in-house robotics program on a smaller scale with age-appropriate challenges.
